Department Highlights
Guest Speakers - Recently students have heard from Vietnam war veterans, magistrates, WWII Prisoners of War, Attorneys, and parents with experience in related topics.
Supplemental Instruction - Additional supplemental materials are provided to students seeking extra help.

Organizations & Activities
Field Trips to Washington DC and Gettysburg - Students travel to sites including the White House, Congressman Michael Doyle’s office, Vietnam Memorial, Smithsonian Museum, the eternal flame at Kennedy’s grave, and Washington National Cathedral.
European Travel - Students have traveled to England, France, Germany, Italy, and Russia.
World Affairs Council - Students participate in this organization in Pittsburgh, discussing world affairs and current events.
  
Academic Competitions
Academic World Quest 2009 - Students answer questions on a variety of Social Studies topics including flags, world leaders, history, economics, etc., competing against public and private schools in Allegheny County.
