Edward Deenihan

Distinguished Alumnus
Edward Deenihan
Serra Catholic High School, Class of 1969

Edward J. Deenihan is a 1969 graduate of Serra. Ed is an Executive Vice President at NetApp, leading Global Support, Quality and Customer Advocacy, and Information Technology. He is responsible for driving efficiency and transformation initiatives across NetApp in order to optimize their customer and partner experience. Ed has a long history of successfully leading new initiatives, including NetApp’s Professional Services and Corporate Quality programs.

Ed was previously the Executive Vice President of NetApp Global Services, where he oversaw the strategic direction and worldwide delivery of technical support and professional services consulting. During his five-year tenure in this position, his team grew in size, scope, and maturity to what is now an industry-leading capability. He joined the company in 2000 as senior vice president for Worldwide Sales. While in that position, he successfully implemented an aggressive business strategy that resulted in NetApp’s expansion into the large commercial enterprise and government markets.

Prior to working at NetApp, Ed was president of the EDS Technology Sector Strategic business unit, where he was responsible for all marketing, sales, and service delivery operations to EDS clients. Before that, he was COO of the same EDS unit. He began his career at General Motors, with assignments in the United States and the United Kingdom.

In addition to his career at NetApp, Ed is dedicated to his church. He is a head Eucharistic Minister and is actively involved in the Giving Tree Project during the holidays. Reverend Padraig Greene noted, “Every year this project is seamless because of the passion and commitment of Ed and his family. Ed stands high, but humbly, in our community as an icon of Christian faith and life.”

In June of 2011, Ed addressed the Serra Catholic graduating class with a very inspirational commencement speech emphasizing the true meaning of leadership. While Ed has had a very successful career in the technology industry, he pointed out to the class, “When I graduated from Serra, it was a
challenging world. The first time I saw a computer was in 1973.” He shared the personal challenges he faced in his career at NetApp, and he encouraged the class to remember to thank God for all the gifts they have been given by Him.

Ed also reminds Serra students to be thankful for the sacrifices made by their parents to provide them with an outstanding Catholic education. He is most grateful to his own parents who believed in Serra and were actively engaged in our community for many years. Always a believer in Serra’s future, Ed was a major participant in the refurbishing of our Physics Lab last summer. Having spent his professional career in the science and technology sectors, Ed knows the value of instilling in students a solid foundation in those disciplines.

Ed holds Bachelor of Science and Master of Business Administration degrees from the University of Detroit. He has been married since 1977 to his wife, Kathy. They have three beautiful children, all grown and on their own. Their oldest son, Kevin, will soon be a father and bring the first grandchild into Kathy and Ed’s life.

Serra Catholic is very thankful to Ed for his continued support and we are pleased to name him as a Distinguished Alumnus.
