Serra Catholic High School, Class of 1965

Matthew Franckiewicz is a 1965 graduate of Serra. After leaving our Eagles’ nest, Matt received his S.B. in Economics from Massachusetts Institute of Technology. He continued his education at the University of Chicago Law School, where he received his J.D. Matt is a well-known and well-respected Arbitrator serving clients throughout the United States, through his own practice in Wilmerding. He has authored several books, including Winning at the NLRB. He has also written articles featured in The Arbitration Journal, Labor Law Journal, and the Dispute Resolution Journal.

His involvement with professional organizations includes The National Academy of Arbitrators, Three Rivers Area Labor Management Committee, American Bar Association, and the Allegheny County Bar Association.

Matt has been married since July 2009 to his wife, Debbie, a professor at the University of Pittsburgh. He has three grown stepchildren and three grandchildren. In addition to rooting for Pitt, the Steelers, the Bucs and the Penguins, he has been a Boston Celtics fan since 1969. (We will forgive you, Matt…) Finally, Matt remarked that, “If given a large enough cup of coffee, I can also dunk a basketball.”

Matt is actively involved in shaping Serra’s future as a member of our Board of Directors. Spearheading our Investment Committee, Matt hopes to see our endowment and operating funds grow to ensure a long, successful future for Serra and her students.

Serra Catholic is honored to recognize Matt as one of this year’s Distinguished Alumni award recipients.
