Graduation Requirements Students must complete at least one credit in Arts/Humanities. Art 1 through Art 4 and Survey of Art will satisfy these credits.

Technology LCD Projector, Laptops, and Microsoft ® PowerPoint
Department Highlights In Art 1 through 4, students explore and work with a wide variety of
mediums, including charcoal, colored pencil, pastels, ink, watercolors
and acrylic paints on canvas. In addition, students have the opportunity to paint with tar/asphalt on
wood!
Items of Merit NEW Fine Arts Center: Serra
has recently created a new center, which is located in the friary
across from the main school building that is totally dedicated to the
Fine Arts, including both the visual arts and music departments.
Academic Competitions & Activities
- Musical Sets: Students have the opportunity to put their artistic talents to good use by designing and painting all of the sets for the school musical in April.
- McKeesport Festival of Trees: A
traditional event held at Renzie Park in which participants decorate a
Christmas tree and display their holiday spirit for everyone to see.
Prizes are also awarded in various categories, such as creativity,
service, etc. In art class, each student has the opportunity to create
a themed ornament that will then be hung on Serra’s tree. Serra students won 1st place in the service category in 2009 and 2010!
- Allegheny County Health Department and Art Institute of Pittsburgh’s Art Poster Contests:
Students have the opportunity to win cash prizes and various
scholarships for the Art Institute. In 2009, Serra students won 1st and
2nd place! In 2010, Serra students won 1st place and 3 honorable
mentions.
