Eagles Football Beat Beth Center in 1st Round WPIAL Playoffs

The​ ​Serra​ ​Catholic​ ​Eagle​ ​ ​football​ ​team​ ​is​ ​moving​ ​on​ ​in​ ​the​ ​WPIAL​ ​playoffs​ ​after​ ​a​ ​thrilling​ ​27​ ​to​ ​20​ ​win​ ​against​ ​the​ ​Beth Center​ ​Bulldogs​ ​on​ ​Friday​ ​night.​ ​In​ ​what​ ​was​ ​a​ ​back-and-forth​ ​game​ ​all​ ​night,​ ​double​ ​dog​ ​scored​ ​first​ ​to​ ​take​ ​an​ ​8​ ​to​ ​0​ ​plead before​ ​the​ ​Eagles​ ​got​ ​on​ ​the​ ​board​ ​with​ ​touchdown​ ​passes​ ​from​ ​Evan​ ​Honick​ ​to​ ​Malik​ ​Edmundson​ ​and​ ​Khalil​ ​Smith.​ ​The Eagles​ ​took​ ​a​ ​12​ ​to​ ​8​ ​lead​ ​into​ ​the​ ​half.​ ​Following​ ​halftime​ ​the​ ​Bulldogs​ ​scored​ ​to​ ​make​ ​the​ ​score​ ​14​ ​to​ ​12​ ​before​ ​the​ ​Eagles rallied​ ​on​ ​the​ ​first​ ​play​ ​of​ ​the​ ​next​ ​position​ ​with​ ​a​ ​touchdown​ ​from​ ​Evan​ ​Honick​ ​to​ ​JaQuae​ ​Jackson​ ​for​ ​65​ ​yards.​ ​The​ ​extra point​ ​by​ ​Brandon​ ​Borek​ ​was​ ​good,​ ​giving​ ​the​ ​Eagles​ ​a​ ​19​ ​to​ ​14​ ​lead.​ ​Following​ ​a​ ​Beth​ ​Center​ ​touchdown,​ ​The​ ​eagles​ ​once again​ ​put​ ​points​ ​on​ ​the​ ​board,​ ​again​ ​from​ ​Honick​ ​to​ ​Jackson​ ​from​ ​thirty​ ​yards​ ​out.​ ​Great​ ​blocking​ ​by​ ​Smith​ ​and​ ​Nate McCullough​ ​on​ ​the​ ​play​ ​helped​ ​lead​ ​Jackson​ ​to​ ​the​ ​end​ ​zone.​ ​The​ ​defense,​ ​which​ ​held​ ​one​ ​of​ ​the​ ​WPIAL’s​ ​leading​ ​running backs​ ​to​ ​under​ ​100​ ​yards​ ​stopped​ ​the​ ​Bulldogs​ ​on​ ​fourth​ ​down​ ​to​ ​see​ ​all​ ​the​ ​win.​ ​Mark​ ​Banner​ ​led​ ​a​ ​great​ ​defensive​ ​effort all​ ​night,​ ​with​ ​Jared​ ​Bevan​ ​and​ ​Honick​ ​each​ ​picking​ ​up​ ​an​ ​interception​ ​along​ ​the​ ​way.​ ​The​ ​Eagles​ ​would​ ​like​ ​to​ ​thank​ ​all​ ​of the​ ​students,​ ​families,​ ​and​ ​alumni​ ​that​ ​attended​ ​the​ ​first​ ​playoff​ ​win​ ​in​ ​10​ ​years​ ​for​ ​the​ ​program.​ ​The​ ​atmosphere​ ​was electric​ ​and​ ​we​ ​really​ ​appreciate​ ​everything.​

 ​The​ ​Eagles​ ​move​ ​on​ ​to​ ​the​ ​quarterfinals​ ​against​ ​Cardinal​ ​Wuerl​ ​North​ ​Catholic to be played at Hampton High School.​ ​Game​ ​time​ ​is​ ​Friday​ ​at​ ​7:30.
