Eagles Football Pulls Out a Win Against Avonworth

posted Sep 18, 2017, 4:16 AM by Sandra Barbieri
What a game it was Friday night under the lights at the Nest! Avonworth stormed out to a 10 to nothing lead after the first half despite great play by the Serra Catholic defense! After the halftime intermission however, everything changed. The Eagles stormed back, led by Bre'Shaun Brown's opening kickoff return for 72 yards to set up a field goal by Brandon Borek to bring the score to 10 to 3. Following a great defensive stop, the Eagles went on the attack, this time finishing the drive with the touchdown as Evan Honick hooked up with Malik Edmundson to bring the score to 10 to 10. The game saw a lot of back-and-forth after that, leading into the fourth quarter when Khalil Smith stepped in front of a pass and intercepted the ball, setting up the game-winning drive by the Eagles. Evan Honick found JaQuae Jackson behind the Antelope defense for a 40 yard touchdown, bringing the score to 16-10. Those two had a great connection all night long, leading to career nights for both of them. Jackson finished with 8 catches for 201 yards and a touchdown while Honick threw for 281 yards and two touchdowns. Smith led the way on the ground with 52 yards. The Eagles' defense iced the game away with a stop on fourth down with 30 seconds left. The defense was stout all night long, finishing the game giving up only 3 yards rushing and putting countless pressure on the Antelope quarterback. Thanks to all the fans that came out to support the team.

The Eagles return the action this Friday, at Thomas Jefferson against Seton LaSalle. The game is at 7 o'clock and will be on live tv on 22, the Point. See you there."
