This week, we are proud to feature Mrs. Wendy Seibert, Serra Catholic's Librarian.  In addition to ensuring that all of the students at Serra Catholic have access to reading materials through the library, Mrs. Seibert also provides marvelous academic resources to our students.  Mrs. Seibert's autobiography can be found below:

I received my elementary and environmental education teaching certificates with my B.S in Education from Slippery Rock. Eventually, I received an opportunity to work as a long term substitute librarian in the Steel Valley School District. In order to remain in that position, I made a commitment to attend school at night at the University of Pittsburgh, where I completed my MLS.

I received very caring support and mentoring from many people in all of those institutions, enabling me to pursue my career. My experiences at Serra Catholic have helped me to continue to grow in every way. I have invested many years of my life respecting its mission and working diligently to play a variety of roles in its success, while being supported throughout the years by some wonderful administrators and faculty members who have become dear friends.

I would say that being provided the opportunity to encourage young people to read has truly been my main professional purpose. I hope that by letting kids know that regardless of age, improving this basic skill -through practice- automatically improves one’s ability to become independent, while the educational and emotional benefits last a lifetime!

I’ve attempted to confront changes in education with a positive attitude. I’ve enjoyed the challenges associated with new methods of research, have accepted technology and the role it plays in our ever-changing lives, yet recognize that though dramatic changes are taking place, the key of instilling a love for learning remains the same.
