Laureen (Leptinsky) Costa is a 1986 graduate of Serra Catholic.  She is a Managing Director at JPMorgan Asset Management where she serves as a Portfolio Manager in the private equity group.  Over 20 years in private equity, her work has included a broad spectrum of investments – in both small and large companies, from startups through household brands; in numerous industries, from heavy manufacturing to Internet retailing; and around the world, from Pittsburgh to Paris.

After high school, she attended Bucknell University where she graduated magna cum laude, Phi Beta Kappa, in 1990 with a BA in Economics and a minor in mathematics.  After working for two years in commercial lending, she attended The Amos Tuck School of Business at Dartmouth College where she earned her MBA.

Upon graduating from Dartmouth, she worked for AT&T’s pension fund in Basking Ridge, NJ, focusing on private equity.  In 1997, their team of private equity specialists spun out of AT&T to create the Private Equity Group at JPMorgan Asset Management, which today manages approximately $22 billion in private equity assets, mostly on behalf of institutional clients.  From 2000 to 2002, Laureen and a long-time colleague established the group’s London office to enhance their investment management in the UK and Europe.  Since 2004, in addition to her regular duties she also has led the group’s initiatives focused on fostering investments in minority and women-owned businesses.

Laureen is a CFA charter holder and is a member of the CFA Institute.  She is a frequent speaker at investment conferences and is a past board member of the National Association of Investment Companies.  She serves on numerous private equity advisory boards, the Executive Advisory Board of the Center for Private Equity and Entrepreneurship at Tuck and on the Investment Committee at Serra.

Laureen’s bond with Serra runs strong.  She credits her involvement in the speech club and competing in the forensics tournaments as the single biggest advantage she gained from her years at Serra.  Furthermore, according to Laureen, “In our Marriage class we learned about how the only thing we bring to a relationship is ourselves.  So we should not try to change ourselves or our partner because that is what is special.  I thought about that lesson a lot through the years and was fortunate to find my incredible husband.”  In fact, Laureen and her husband, Michael, were married by Serra’s own Father Alexis Anania.

Laureen and Michael believe in the value of education.  To that end, they have established The Edward Leptinsky Scholarship at Bucknell University.   The Scholarship shall be awarded to students who demonstrate financial need, with preference for students from Serra Catholic High School.
