The Serra Catholic Eagles Softball Team defeated the Jeanette Jayhawks in WPIAL first round playoff action yesterday afternoon.

The Jayhawks jumped to a 2-0 lead in the top of the third, however your Eagles responded in the bottom of the third when Lauren Kolenik smacked a double scoring Peyton Jaworski and Sam Andrekanic.  Maria Lamonde then then hit a single scoring Kolenik and bringing the score to 3-2 Eagles.  In the bottom of the fourth Sam Andrekanic singled home Ashley Howard making the score 4-2.  However, in the top of the fifth the Jayhawks added a run. Your Eagles quickly countered in the bottom of the fifth when Elizabeth Quatrrone demolished a pitch to deep center field scoring Maria Lamonde all the way from first and bringing the score to 5-3 Eagles. In the top of the sixth Gia Husnick stole her 21st base of the season setting a new single season record. Gia then scored on a Lauren Kolenik single, and in the process scored her 30th run of the season, setting a new single season record, and the 95th of her career, setting a new school record for runs scored.  Congratulations Gia!  Later in the inning Sam Andrekanic scored on a Maria Lamonde sacrifice fly, bringing the score to 7-3.  The Jayhawks put up two meaningless runs in the top of the seventh but the Eagles were able to put it away with a final score of 7-5.

Sam Andrekanic secured her 14th victory of the season, while striking out 10 and walking none.

The Eagles will face the Monessen Greyhounds in the second round of the playoffs.
