This Spring, eight of Serra's Junior Achievement (JA) students received a Bishop David Zubik Scholarship. There were a total of 10 scholarships awarded and Serra students received 8 of them. Each Bishop David Zubik Scholarship was worth $1,000. A number of scholarships were available, and were awarded to 9th – 11th Grade students in Western PA who are currently attending a Catholic High School within the Dioceses of Altoona/Johnstown, Erie, Greensburg, or Pittsburgh and have participated in at least one volunteer-led JA classroom program during the 2012-2013 school year.  In addition, through another scholarship program, graduating Senior Bobby Kish also received a Junior Achievement State Farm scholarship.

Serra students attended the JA Personal Finance® module which focuses on earning money, spending money wisely, through budgeting, saving and investing money, using credit cautiously, and protecting personal finances. In addition, they had to write a personal essay answering the question: How has attending a diocesan school and participating in Junior Achievement impacted your future, academically or professionally? The students also had to obtain a letter of recommendation from a teacher.
