As part of a directive from Bishop Zubik, the Diocese of Pittsburgh is creating its own police force to enhance safety at schools, churches, and other areas across the diocese. At Serra Catholic, this means the addition of Officer George Wright, who will be present on campus daily to help ensure the safety of students, faculty, staff, and visitors.
Officer Wright comes to us with an extensive law enforcement background, with some highlights including serving as a US Border Patrol Agent, providing Secretarial Protection to two Presidential Cabinet members, and a Special Agent with the Defense Criminal Investigative Service with the U.S. Department of Defense. He was a Federal Law Enforcement Training Center Certified Firearms Instructor and Active Shooter Threat Instructor.
Originally from the San Francisco Bay Area, Officer Wright attended San Jose State University and San Diego State University, graduating with a BA in Speech Communications and a minor in Russian. In addition to his duties at Serra, he works as a part-time instructor with the Westmoreland Municipal Police Academy.
In his spare time, he enjoys riding his bike, recreational shooting sports, and sleeping on his days off. A few fun facts about him: his great grandfather was World War II Gen. Jimmy Doolittle, and he is a self-proclaimed caffeine addict.
We extend a warm welcome to Officer Wright as he joins our Serra Catholic community!
We continue to be thankful for our strong relationship with the McKeesport Police Department, and we are grateful for the added layer of security Officer Wright provides.
