Honor Roll & Honors Societies

Honor Roll

At the conclusion of each academic quarter, qualifying students will be placed on the Honor Roll according to the
following standards:
RUBY - the student has earned all A’s (93% minimum)
GOLD - the student has earned an A average with no grade lower than a B (85%)
SILVER - the student has earned a B average and has no grade lower than a B (85%)
 
Graduating with Honors:
Students must meet the following criteria to graduate with honors
HIGHEST HONORS: QPA of 4.75 and above
HIGH HONORS: QPA of 4.25 - 4.74
HONORS: QPA of 3.5 - 4.2

Honors Societies at Serra Catholic

Serra Catholic High School has several Honor Societies to recognize students who excel academically, or as leaders among their peers, within a specific academic discipline. These Honor Societies exist for the purpose of forming bonds between student members who excel in a variety of fields while sharing a commitment to community and learning.
 
National Honor Society
The National Honor Society is an honorary society for tenth, eleventh, and twelfth grade students. More than just
an honor roll, NHS serves to recognize those students who have demonstrated excellence in the areas of scholarship, service, leadership, and character.
 
To qualify for membership, a regularly enrolled student must:
• Maintain a cumulative QPA of 3.5 after the first semester of their sophomore year. These students will be
notified that they are possible candidates for the National Honor Society.
• Complete the application for entrance into NHS by the required deadline, at which point a faculty counsel
consisting of teaching and coaching staff will assess applicants based on their demonstration of service,
leadership, and character.
• Take part in the National Honor Society induction ceremony and maintain their academic rating. Any
member of the National Honor Society who if found to be in serious violation of school policies may be
removed from NHS.
 
Quill and Scroll Honor Society
International Honor Society for twelfth grade journalists. The chapter recognizes individual initiative and
achievement in the newspaper and yearbook.

To qualify for membership, a student must:
• Be actively involved in newspaper or yearbook club for the duration of eleventh grade and at the time of
initiation.
• Maintain at least a 3.0 cumulative GPA.

Science National Honor Society
The Science National Honor Society (SNHS) is an honorary society for junior and senior students. The vision of
SNHS is to engender a new group of young thinkers who will be the future of industry, research, and scientific
exploration for America.
 
To qualify for membership, a regularly enrolled student must
• Be enrolled in at least one honors or upper-level science class during or prior to junior year
• Be enrolled in at least one second year honors or upper science class during or prior to senior year
• A member must maintain a B average overall and a B+ average (3.5 on a 4.0 scale) across all science
courses.

La Sociedad Honoraria Hispánica (Spanish Honor Society)
La Sociedad Honoraria Hispánica is an honorary society for eleventh and twelfth grade students. Its purpose is to
recognize the high academic achievement in Spanish for students of secondary schools. Students who complete
all four years of Spanish and maintain the 90% average are eligible to wear honors cords at graduation.
 
To qualify for membership, a regularly enrolled student must:
• Maintain a minimum average of 90% in Spanish for at least three consecutive semesters.
• Be enrolled in Spanish at the time of initiation.
• Maintain an active status. Members of La Sociedad Honoraria Hispánica are expected to continue their
study of Spanish throughout their high school enrollment, unless there are extenuating circumstances
that prohibit continued study.
 
Société Honoraire de Francais (French Honor Society)
Société Honorarie de Francais is an honorary society for eleventh and twelfth grade students. Its purpose is to
recognize the high academic achievement in French for students of secondary schools. Students who complete
all four years of French and maintain the 90% average are eligible to wear honors cords at graduation.
Eligibility for membership requires students to:
• Maintain a minimum average of an 90% in French for three consecutive semesters
• Be enrolled in French at the time of initiation
• Maintain an active status. Members of Société Honorarie de Francais are expected to continue their
study of French throughout their high school enrollment, unless there are extenuating circumstances that
prohibit continued study.

Thespian Honor Society
The International Thespian Society is an honorary society for eleventh and twelfth grade theater students.
 
To qualify for membership, a regularly enrolled student must
• Have earned approximately 100 hours of theater work (either in cast, crew, or stage managing) and a
cumulative QPA of 3.0 by the first semester of their junior year.
• Complete the application for entrance into ITS by the required deadline and maintain good academic and
school standing.
 
Tri-M Music Honor Society
Tri- M Music Honor Society is an honorary society for tenth through twelfth grade students. It is designed to
recognize students for their academic and musical achievements and to provide leadership and service
opportunities to young musicians.
 
To qualify for membership, a regularly enrolled student must
• Participate in two or more music ensembles the year prior to membership (Choir, Concert Band, Marching, Jazz Band, Musical, Stage Crew)
• Audition on their instrument or voice
• Participate in the annual Tri-M Recital
