Serra Catholic High School: Bringing Students’ Gifts to Life

At Serra Catholic, we are committed to providing an exceptional Catholic education, rooted in our rich Franciscan Rosary in the San Damiano Chapeltradition. Our mission is to form students spiritually, morally, academically, and socially by identifying their unique gifts and talents.

Your generous support helps us maintain this tradition of excellence. Every contribution plays a vital role in shaping the future of our students, enhancing our programs, and ensuring that Serra Catholic continues to thrive for generations to come.

We are deeply grateful to all of our donors whose generosity allows us to fulfill our mission. Your support is not just an investment in education, but in the lives and futures of our students. Whether you are an alumnus, a parent, or a friend of Serra Catholic, you ensure that we can continue to foster a strong community of faith and learning.
May God bless you abundantly for your generosity and commitment to Catholic education. Together, we are shaping the leaders of tomorrow, grounded in faith, compassion, and integrity.

We gladly accept donations made to our general operation in the form of our Annual Fund, the general scholarship fund, or perhaps the most advantageous form of giving: the EITC Scholarship Fund. This is a special fund sponsored by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania where donors receive a 90% refund on their donation. It may sound too good to be true but it’s absolutely real! It has expanded greatly in the more than 20 years that it has been in existence, making it easier to donate to a non-public/non-profit school in Pennsylvania than ever before! We’ve had donors range from $5,000 to over $500,000 - and they all receive 90% of their donation back in the form of an actual check sent to them from the Pennsylvania Department of Community & Economic Development.

For more information on this or any other method of giving you might want to consider, please contact Tim Chirdon, Serra Catholic President at [email protected] or at 412-751-2020 ex. 107.

Our Current Wish List

In the Spirit of Saint Junipero’s motto of Always Forward, there is a list of items that we are seeking in the future. While none of the items come at a low cost, they would all enhance our school in their own way:
Fitness Center - replacing equipment that has become faulty since the center was installed fifteen years ago (Cost: $10,000 - $25,000)

Athletic Trainer - our trainer utilizes a utility golf cart that has a bed in the back capable of hauling important equipment from the school to the field as well as injured players from the field to the school when necessary.  The current cart is over 20 years old.  (Cost: $12,000). Thanks to an anonymous donor, this item has been checked off our wish list!

Interior Doors - all of the classroom doors, gymnasium doors, office doors, etc., while functional, show their age.  Almost all of the interior doors were the ones originally installed in 1961.  (Cost: $60,000)

Athletic Field Restrooms - while the school often has over 1,000 people in attendance at home football games, we have only been able to provide portable restrooms that are rented annually.  Having 10 units for males and 10 for females and a handicap accessible restroom would be ideal.  (Cost: $550,000)

Artificial Field Turf - maintaining our grass field is a labor of love and comes at a significant cost each year.  Having an artificial turf field would allow multiple teams to practice at once without concern of constant wear and tear. (Cost; $1 million for initial installation, $500,000 to replace every 10-12 years).

You may well notice that the majority of our “wish-list” items are related to athletics.  While this is true, it does not come at the cost of devaluing the primary importance we place on our most important features of Catholic identity and a rigorous academic program.  These areas have been a focal point and we have succeeded in building a dynamic curriculum, an outstanding faculty with ongoing professional development; we have phenomenal educational technological resources throughout the school.  We are very well positioned to continue this tradition of excellence for years to come.  While athletics are a very important part of many of our students’ high school experience, so are the fine arts and academic clubs.  All of these areas are important to our identity and operation.

There are many ways to help us continue our tradition of excellence.  If you would like to make a restricted gift to help with even a portion of one or more of the items described above, we will always respect your wishes and only make a purchase when it is fully funded.

A Decade of Development

Serra Statue with Sun RaysThe last ten years have brought about unprecedented levels of development at Serra Catholic.  These advancements range from constant updates with educational technology, curriculum offerings, new opportunities for sacramental and liturgical practices, and the many enhancements to our building and grounds.  Please join us in a prayer of thanksgiving for the many people who have to thank: generosity of donors, a dedicated faculty, staff, and administration.

Please click on a year to see information on development in that year. As you read through the list, you can rest assured that Serra Catholic is in outstanding shape as we have been good stewards of the blessings bestowed upon us.
