Dear Members of the Serra Catholic Community,
It is with a sorrowful heart that we regret to inform you of the tragedy that occurred this morning. In a terrible accident, one of our beloved Serra students suddenly lost their life. In an immediate response to learning of a serious incident, we gathered our student body and faculty together in prayer for all involved. As more information became available, we gathered again to pray and offer immediate counseling services for all students. At this point, there are several other Serra students and the driver of the vehicle who are being treated in local hospitals. Please keep them in your prayers.
Our schedule for the next few days will be as follows:
All school classes and activities are canceled through Sunday.
Teachers will be here tomorrow (Thursday) as well as grief counselors for any student who wishes to talk with someone individually or in a small group setting. We will not have normal transportation tomorrow, however, our doors will be open for our students from 7:30 a.m. - 2:30 p.m.
A prayer service is being planned for tomorrow at 7:00 p.m. on campus. All are welcome to attend.
Plans will be implemented for everyone in the Serra community to attend the funeral services. All will be notified when these plans are confirmed.
We will have more counselors available to all of our students when we reopen.
As we move forward as a school community, let us pray for the life that was lost and for her family, friends and loved ones. May her soul and the souls of all the faithfully departed, through the Mercy of God, rest in peace.
Please see the attached statement from the Diocese of Pittsburgh.
Your friends in Christ,
Serra Catholic High School
