SERRA CATHOLIC SCHOLARSHIPS:

 

Deadline for Serra Scholarships: Wednesday, March 15, 2024

 

Endowment Scholarship

Awards of $1,000 each will be available for current and incoming students.

 

Academic Merit Scholarship for Incoming Freshmen

Awards of up to $1,000

 

Academic Merit Scholarship for Current Students

Awards of up to $1,000

 

The above scholarships are based on the following criteria:

  • Incoming freshmen must have applied and been accepted to Serra Catholic.
  • Must have an “A” average, no grade lower than an 85%.
  • Demonstrated financial need; completed FACTS application must be on file.
  • Recommendation from a current teacher or principal. Electronic submission of recommendation is acceptable for current Serra students.

 

Saint Junipero Serra Scholarship

Awards of $1,000 each will be available to incoming and current students.

 

This scholarship is based on the following criteria:

  • Incoming freshmen must have applied and been accepted to Serra Catholic.
  • Service to place of worship, school and/or community; signed form confirming service hours.
  • Demonstrated financial need; completed FACTS application must be on file.

Arnold & Jean Stein Scholarship

One award per year up to $1,000 is awarded in the honor of the late Arnold and Jean Stein, who were active members in the Serra community. The funding of the award is made possible by the generosity of the Stein children, graduates of Serra.

This scholarship is based on the following criteria:

  • The student(s) must be a member of Corpus Christ Parish in McKeesport, PA.
  • If there are no qualifying student(s) from Corpus Christi Parish, a student (s) from a Catholic parish in McKeesport or Duquesne, PA will be selected.
  • Academic merit: “A” averages no grade below 85% and demonstrated financial need; completed FACTS application must be on file.

 

Walter & Stefina Ogrodnik Scholarship

Up to three awards of $1,200 each will be available each year. This award is a gift in honor of Walter and Stefina Ogrodnik. As a widow, Stefina sent each of her three children to Serra Catholic. The awards are provided through the generosity of Ronald Ogrodnik, Ph.D., Class of 1966.

 

This scholarship is based on the following criteria:

  • The student (s) must be the child of a widow or widower.
  • Academic merit: “A” averages no grade below 85% and demonstrated financial need; completed FACTS application must be on file.

 

The Bruce Michael Guarascio Memorial Scholarship

A minimum of one award per year of up to $1,000 will be awarded in the honor of Bruce Michael Guarascio, Class of 1972. Bruce was a vital part of the Serra community and passed away much too young. The funding of the award is made possible by the generosity of Bruce’s brothers and sisters along with classmates, fellow alumni, friends, and family.

 

The scholarship is based on the following criteria:

  • Demonstrated financial need with emphasis on families with two or more children; completed FACTS application must be on file.

  • Student’s demonstrate kindness, community-mindedness, and Serra Catholic values.

  • Academic merit: “A” averages no grade below 85%.

 

NEW MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIPS FOR 2024-25

 

Samantha Lee Kalkbrenner Memorial Scholarship

Deadline to apply: May 1, 2024

 

This scholarship is presented in remembrance of Samantha Lee Kalkbrenner. Samantha was the beating heart of the Class of 2026. In only 15 years, she made an everlasting impact on her church, school, friends and family, and anyone she ever met. Although she is no longer with us, her light will never be extinguished. This scholarship is one of the ways the Serra Catholic community will always remember Sam. Recipients of this scholarship will exhibit the ideals of Sam: kindness, service, and selflessness.


The $1,000 per year scholarship is being offered to three current or incoming Serra Catholic students.

 

Olivia Dapper Memorial Scholarship

Deadline to apply: May 1, 2024

 

This scholarship is presented in remembrance of Olivia Dapper, a Serra Catholic High School graduate, Class of 2012. Olivia was a beautiful soul, free-spirited, adventurous, funny, supportive, happy, kind, and thoughtful young woman. Olivia loved helping others, specifically young children and volunteered at the Boys and Girls Club. She was active in Serra Catholic High School clubs and athletics. Recipients of this scholarship will exhibit that they are active members of the Serra school community and participate in charity activities outside of school.


The $1,000 per year scholarship is offered to one current Serra Catholic student.

 

John Hart Memorial Scholarship

Deadline to apply: May 1, 2024

 

This scholarship is in loving memory of John Zachary Hart. John was a friend and Serra Alum. John’s classmates, the Class of 2013, collected donations during their ten-year reunion in his memory. Along with his family, the Class of 2013 presents this scholarship in John’s honor. His memory lives on with us, especially when we come together.


The $1000.00 per year scholarship is offered to one current Serra Catholic student.

INCOMING FRESHMEN ONLY

 

Ryan Malady Memorial Scholarship

Deadline to apply: May 1, 2024

This scholarship is presented in the name of Ryan Malady, a 1993 graduate of Serra Catholic High School. Family members have shared that, “Ryan treasured his time at Serra. The friends he made, the experiences he had and the education he received lived on with him to the very end and after.”

 

The scholarship is based on the following criteria:

  • Incoming freshmen must have applied and been accepted to Serra Catholic.

  • Demonstrated financial need; completed FACTS application must be on file.

  • Member of a Catholic parish and a completed Pastor Verification Form on file.

  • Recommendation from a current teacher or principal.

 
Junior Achievement Scholarship
Current 8th grade Elementary Catholic School students who have attended a Diocesan Elementary School and participated in the Junior Achievement Program may apply through the Junior Achievement of Western PA website.
